EDC – Eva Demaya Centre, Luviri, Rumphi District, Northern Malawi

The Eva Demaya Centre (EDC) has been operating in northern Malawi since 2001. In August 2024, the Khula Foundation took over responsibility for the centre after its founder retired from the project. To ensure continuity of care during the handover, the Natural Health Swiss Foundation (NHSF) provided a bridging contribution at the time. In March 2025, Gabrielle Barben travelled to Malawi with representatives of the Khula Foundation to see how the project was progressing and whether the EDC was in line with the purpose and strategy of the NHSF. The temporary support for the project in Malawi has now come to an end.
Based on the initial positive experiences with the Khula Foundation as project manager and partner of the NSHF, funding is to be continued. The long-standing successful collaboration between conventional medicine and complementary medicine, including homeopathy, will continue to be promoted and strengthened.

During the visit to the EDC, the positive developments since the Khula Foundation became involved were clearly visible. Particularly noteworthy are the strengthened team spirit, organisational stability and open and transparent communication. Employees feel that they are taken seriously, and regular exchanges with management promote clear processes and continuous quality development.
